Find Information

*Ask a Librarian. Need information in a hurry? Not sure how to find what you're looking for? Click here to ask a librarian using an online submission form, or feel free to call us or stop by at the desk. Check Out Books, DVDs, and Other Materials

*Get a Library Card. To begin checking out items from our library (including digital holdings), stop by to get a free library card. See our full circulation policy here.

*Control Your Account Online. Renew, reserve, and see what items you have checked out by using the library's online catalog. Click here for instructions.

*Online Payments. If your account shows a fine or other money owed, pay from home with Payport.

*Sign Up for Email Reminders. Want help remembering when your books will be due? Add an email address to any account you want reminders for, and receive an automatic notice 3 days in advance of the due date.

*See the Material Types We Carry. Our collections and online library provide the following adult materials for checkout:

Our full collection of available items can be viewed any time on our catalog.

We also keep a range of local and national newspapers available for in-library reading.

*Interlibrary Loans. Interested in something we don't have? Let us know, and we may still be able to get it for you! Stop by or call in to fill out a form about the item you're looking for, and we'll send out inquiries to see if we can borrow the item from another library. (Keep in mind that interlibrary loans, if successful, cost $3 to cover the shipping back and forth.)

*Reader's Advisory (Recommendations). If you want something good to read but don't know what the next thing on your list should be, let us provide you some personalized suggestions — forms will soon be available online, or you can contact us directly at the library. You can also check out our 'Find a New Read' links.

*'Automatically Yours' Program. Have some favorite, big-name authors whose new books you always love to read? Then consider joining 'Automatically Yours', where we'll automatically put your name on the reserve list for any new releases from the authors you've chosen. As soon as your turn comes up, we'll give you a call and hold your book for you at the front desk.

*BRIDGES. Our online collection, including thousands of digital books and audiobooks. Click here for more information, or stop into the library for full instructions on how to check out and download to your particular device.

* A membership subscription to one of the leading genealogical research sites. Available in-library only.

*Gale Cengage Learning. One of the leading online databases for articles and publications.

*LearningExpress 3.0. A learning site covering a wide variety of topics, including continuing education for adults. Click here for more information.

 Use Our Facilities and Equipment

*Reading Areas and Study Desks. There are several open locations around the library set aside for quiet work/reading or small-group meetings. Each has a wall or floor plugin in close proximity, and the couches at back are situated near recent newspapers and magazines for easy browsing. If you are in need of a more secluded workspace, see "Reserve a Meeting/Study Room" below.

*Free Wi-Fi Access. Bring in a laptop or mobile device to access the internet (no log-in necessary).

*Use a Library Computer. Several desktop computers with internet access and word processing programs are provided to all card-holding members of the library. The computers are often very busy, so please stop up at the front desk or call ahead to request a guaranteed time slot. There are also several Lending Laptops available for checkout within the library by eligible patrons age 15 and up: find more information here.

*Print, Copy, or Scan. Printer/copiers are available for use, and HotSpot printing now enables you to print to the library from any location. Once printed, pages sized 8.5x11" are 15 cents per page in black and white and $1 per page for color.

*Send and Receive Fax Messages. Faxes may be sent at the rate of $2 for the first page with $1 for each additional page. Faxes of any length may be received at our number (563-659-2901) for $1.

*Laminate. A wide-format laminator is available for use at the rate of $1 per sheet of laminate used. A paper cutter is available upon request for resizing laminated sheets.

*Microfilm. Newspaper records going back over a century are available to be viewed on microfilm. Librarians are available to help with the equipment.

*Test Proctoring. If you are taking a class from a remote institution and require a proctor, our library does offer free proctoring services. Please call (563) 659-5523 or stop in to make an appointment for a proctored test.

*Reserve a Meeting/Study Room. Our study rooms, small conference room and large meeting room  are available for reservation. Please see our full meeting room policy if you are interested in making a reservation.
