Children's Services in library

Below is a complete list of the services we offer especially for children and their guardians.
For more information about all services the library offers, please start here.

Check Out Books, DVDs, and Other Materials

*Get a Library Card. To begin checking out items from our library (including digital holdings), stop by to get a library card. It does not cost anything, and children under 14 are eligible to get a card in their own name provided that a parent/guardian provides a signature and verifies their contact information. See our full policy on cards here.

*Control Your Account Online. Renew, reserve, and see what items you have checked out by using the library's online catalog. Click here for instructions.

*Sign Up for Email Reminders. Want help remembering when your child's books will be due? Add an email address and a reminder request to any account you want reminders for, and receive an automatic notice 3 days in advance of the due date. (If you provide an email, we will also be able to send you an early notice if any items do become overdue.)

*See the Material Types We Carry. Our Children's Section and online library provide the following materials for checkout:

    • Board Books
    • Picture Books
    • Activity Kits
    • Beginning Chapter Books
    • Junior Fiction Books
    • Junior Nonfiction and Biography
    • Junior Audiobooks.
    • Junior Graphic Novels
    • Children's Magazines
    • Online eBooks for Children
    • Online Audiobooks for Children
    • Kid-Friendly Video Games
    • DVDs
    • Children's Music on CD
    • Hand Puppets

Our full collection of available items can be viewed any time on our catalog.

*Interlibrary Loans. Interested in something we don't have? Let us know, and we may still be able to get it in for you! Stop by or call in to fill out a form about the item you're looking for, and we'll send out inquiries to see if we can borrow the item from another library. Keep in mind that interlibrary loans, if successful, cost $3 to cover the shipping back and forth.

*Reader's Advisory (Recommendations). If your child wants something fun to read but you can't seem to find anything good, let us help out with some personalized suggestions!

*Use a Computer. Several desktop computers are provided to the public free of charge. It is recommended that young children be supervised during use. The library staff does not monitor a patron's use of a library computer, no matter their age. It is recommended young children be supervised by their parent/guardian.
