Plans and Expansion

Updates for the building expansion project:

In February 2016, the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library Board of Trustees hired Anders Dahlgren of Library Planning Associates, Inc. to conduct a service and space needs assessment for the existing library. To read the final copy of the Library Planning Associates, Inc. service goals and space needs study, click here

On January 9th, 2017, the library board conducted interviews of four architect firms, selecting FEH Design to move forward with the project. FEH Design is located in Dubuque, IA and has an extensive portfolio that includes many library building projects. More information about FEH Design can be found here.

On August 7th, 2018, the City of DeWitt held a special election and passed a $3.5 million dollar bond referendum with 82% favorable vote for the project. In fall of 2018, the library board continues their fundraising efforts to reach the last $2.2 million needed to complete the project.

On May 20th, 2019, the Frances Banta Waggoner Community Library held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction. Phase 1 of the project (building the new addition) is projected to be completed by February 2020. Once Phase 1 is complete, the library will move into the new addition so Phase 2 (the renovation of the existing library) can begin. A grand opening of the new library is projected to take place July/August of 2020.
