Children and Parents

Below is a complete list of the services we offer especially for children and their guardians.
For more information about all services the library offers, please start here.
And if you ever have questions about using any of the services, please don't hesitate to ask!

Check Out Books, DVDs, and Other Materials

*Get a Library Card. To begin checking out items from our library (including digital holdings), stop by to get a library card. It does not cost anything, and children under 14 are eligible to get a card in their own name provided that a parent/guardian provides a signature and verifies their contact information. Please note that library cards enable the holder to use any of our computers and check out from any of the collections, so if parents are concerned about their child's internet/materials access, library accounts should be kept under the parents' name(s). See our full policy on cards here.

*Control Your Account Online. Renew, reserve, and see what items you have checked out by using the library's online catalog. Click here for instructions.

*Online Payments. If your account shows a fine or other money owed, pay from home with Payport.

*Sign Up for Email Reminders. Want help remembering when your child's books will be due? Add an email address and a reminder request to any account you want reminders for, and receive an automatic notice 2 days in advance of the due date. (If you provide an email, we will also be able to send you an early notice if any items do become overdue.)

*Find Out If You're Eligible for Automatic Renewal. Are you a teacher? Do you homeschool? We may be able to offer you extended checkout terms! Call or stop by today to learn more.

*See the Material Types We Carry. Our Children's Section and online library provide the following materials for checkout:

    • Board Books
    • Picture Books
    • Activity Kits

Our full collection of available items can be viewed any time on our catalog.

*Interlibrary Loans. Interested in something we don't have? Let us know, and we may still be able to get it in for you! Stop by or call in to fill out a form about the item you're looking for, and we'll send out inquiries to see if we can borrow the item from another library. (Keep in mind that interlibrary loans, if successful, cost $2 to cover the shipping back and forth. If a parent/guardian helps to place an ILL request on the account of a child 14 years old or younger, the parent/guardian is responsible for any charge incurred.)

*Reader's Advisory (Recommendations). If your child wants something fun to read but you can't seem to find anything good, let us help out with some personalized suggestions! A form can be found here, or you can contact us directly at the library.
